zum letzten song wurden alle auf die bühne eingeladen. fuck it, i’m gonna have a party!
aus der stadt, die niemals schläft, kamen sie (mit einem umweg über bochum und unwesentliche andere stationen) in die stadt, die es gar nicht gibt (weitere infos dazu gibt’s hier, bemerkenswert finde ich auch den tagesschau-beitrag dazu) – die leute, die nicht surfen und konsequenterweise nada surf heißen.
einen kleinen witz mehrmals zu “bringen” und dann auch noch hier zu posten, ja, das ist ein bisschen peinlich, aber da bin ich doch mal schmerzfrei. :-) also, hier ist er:
erst hab ich mich gewundert, als ich mich umdrehte und halb bielefeld – oder das, was ich dafür hielt – auf einmal wild zu tanzen anfing. aber dann fiel’s mir auf und ein: der song war “imaginary friends”, wahrscheinlich die illusionshymne der ostwestfalen …
das war so der offizielle teil. mal ganz persönlich gesehen, war es auch spannend, viele alte und neue freunde zu treffen. zwei haben das wochenende bei mir verbracht, ein paar sehr französische franzosen sind extra angereist und ebenso eine sehr liebe freundin aus holland, die mir der zufall und ein nada-surf-konzertchen beschert haben. auf nationaler ebene war’s toll, michael eeeendlich mal wiederzusehen ;-) – das erste mal mit diesem live-soundtrack! dann waren da noch cat und hans-uwe und hape und pamela und martina und elias und und und …
natürlich war ich spät genug, um nicht zu lang auf nada surf warten zu müssen – aber nicht früh genug, um noch mit michael, ans-uwe und cat zu sprechen. vor allem auch, weil es da auditive probleme mit ersteren gab. dabei war’s doch gar nicht so laut … wir müssen uns mal bei manowar treffen – oder wer war noch gleich die lauteste band der welt? ;-P

they arrived from the city that never sleeps (with some stops at bochum and other minor stopovers) in die city that doesn’t even exist (you find more infos on that topic here and here – the people who don’t surf (do they?) and are consequently named nada surf.
to present a little joke several times and then even on this blog as well, yes, that’s truly blatantly embarrassing. but i don’t care. so here it is: when people in bielefeld (or what i took for it) all of a sudden started dancing, i was quite surprised. but when i realised it was “imaginary friends” playing at that time, it became all too clear – must have been the illusionary hymn of those city’s dwellers.
that’s it for the official part of the review. on a more personal note, it was also very exciting to meet old and new friends on that occasion. two of them spent the weekend at my place, some very nice french people had travelled to be there – and also a very dear dutch friend – the friendship having been brought to existence by fate and a tiny nada surf show in amsterdam.
but also on a national basis, it was a lovely time – for instance, to see michael again after such a looooong time. and the first time with that special live soundtrack to go with it.
and then there were cat and hans-uwe and hape and pamela and martina and elias and many more …
of course, i wasn’t late enough for having to wait too long before nada surf entered the stage – but again, too late for having a decent talk to michael, hans-uwe and cat. especially, as the former two experienced auditive problems. but it wasn’t that loud!? i guess we’ll have to meet again at a manowar show – or what was the world’s loudest band again?
puh, das wochenende war schön, sehr schön. und international und warm und spät und dann müde. so viele menschen wiedergetroffen, zwei schöne konzerte genossen, viel gequatscht. das ist nicht alles hier dauf, das hier sind erstmal nur meine schnappschüsse von freitag abend in der bochumer matrix, dem mittelpunkt der gothic welt. diesmal war’s weniger schwarz hier, dafür soundtechnisch unglaublich schlecht und warm und eng. oder, positiv ausgedrückt, gut gefüllt. :-) der schlechte sound führte dazu, dass ich den auftritt von minus the bear nicht so ganz genießen konnte, aber ich glaube, ich mag die.
daniel, matthew und ira haben viele “alte” und auch einige neue songs gespielt, die auf “lucky” sein werden, die setlist in bielefeld gefiel mir allerdings besser – beitrag folgt.

wow, that weekend was beautiful. and international and warm and packed and late and then tired. met up with so many people i hadn’t seen for a long time, enjoyed two great shows. that’s not all on display right here, more entries on that’ll follow. right now, it’s just the snapshots i took on friday evening at the hellish matrix, the goth capital of the world as matthew put it. it was less black this time but it was really poor sound-wise and packed and hot and humid. you could also put it this way: it was well-received.
the poor sound resulted in me not being able to fully enjoy and appreciate the performance of minus the bear but i did enjoy it.
daniel, matthew and ira played a lot of “old” songs along with a few new ones that’ll be on the upcoming album “lucky”. well, i liked the setlist of the bielefeld show a little better, will report on that one later.
